From our conversation this morning at 7:50am here is the complete list of tips to keep your backyard hens a secret if the public comittee meeting rules against them in Kingston tonight...

• Don't get too many. Three is a good number.

• Pick a quiet, docile breed. Even mellow neighbours might become less so if your flighty chickens make periodic breaks for freedom into their backyard or are noisy.

• Keep your henhouse über-clean. Lock feed in rodent-proof bins or canisters. Vigilantly clean the house and run to prevent odour.

• Don't create an eyesore. Or neighbours might talk. To the city, that is.

• Finally, share the wealth. If your neighbours know about the hens, occasionally drop off a basket of a half-dozen fresh organic eggs .

Now enjoy your eggs or roast chicken when the time comes!!

DVD Review!

I will Apologize again for missing a couple weeks, with the summer season upon us I will be off on holidays but will do the best to keep you updated on the new DVDs.

It was an interesting week this week with 3 out of the four releases containing "kill" in the title... YIKES!! but I think that is just what they should have done to the scripts for these movies... Oh Burn!!!!

My 'LOCK' of the week (i know thats pretty lame) is 'What Doesn't Kill You' Starring Ethan Hawke, Mark Ruffalo and Amanda Peet.

Its the story of 2 Childhood friends growing up on the mean streets of South Boston. From a young age they become involved in organized crime but after a while they get fed up by how little money they are making and decide to take matters into their own hands.

The cool thing about this flick... Its based on a true story but even better than that the guy who its about (Mark Ruffalos Character) Wrote and Directed the movie adding even more authenticity to the story.

The Big one most people are talking about will probably be 'Killshot' Starring Mickey Rourke and Diane Lane.

Mickey Rourke is a hitman for the Toronto Mafia. I should actually change that to RUTHLESS hitman for the Toronto Mafia. This movie has alot of dying in it and is your typical run of the mill action/hitman movie. It also stars Tommy from 'Third Rock From the Sun' AND for some local content Kingston is mentioned four times!!

With it being a Medieval themed week on Bobs Breakfast this movie was appropriate and surprisingly not bad. I say surprisingly because I am not a sci fi guy but I definately enjoyed this one...

...about a guy who comes to earth back in 700 AD (During the days of the Viking) with a crazy alien monster on his ship that ends up terrorizing the villages and killing like hundreds of people. Now if you can, in your head, picture the alien monster as an evil Dragon and this becomes a movie about Vikings fighting a Dragon which makes it AWESOME!!!

And Finally, Last and Definately least (because I only lasted 25 mins before turning it off) 'Kill Buljo' A Kill Bill Spoof.

At first I was kinda excited to see a brainless comedy spoof of Kill Bill but was I ever wrong as the movie is entirely in Norwegian!! I dont mind subtitles but it definately took away from any attemted humour. Just thinking about this movie I'm like "WOW that movie really really SUCKED!!!"

But feel free to make that decision yourself.

A couple weeks ago we got into the discussion of what’s happening with Batman…apparently he’s dead and someone (an old Robin) will possibly be replacing him? We had to contact our Comic Book - we’ll call him an expert - to get the details ironed out and well, it turned into a bit of a problem. We can no longer call him the Comic Book Guy (Note to Simpsons lawyers: that’s the last time we will do that), so we are looking for any suggestions on what to call him.

Well i would love to say I have a pick of the week this week... but I dont have one!! There was only one movie that I actually sat down and watched the entire thing start to finish and that was 'Smother' Starring Liv tyler and Diane Keaton. A comedy just in time for Mothers Day as Diane Keaton plays the role of an insane Mother that is slowly destroying her sons life when she not only becomes his roomate but his CO WORKER!!! Imagine that!!! I love my Mum but I do have to draw the line somewhere! hahahahahahah

Now the one EVERYONE will be talking about from this week is 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' and I'm sure i'm not alone when I say this is a three hour movie that felt like four. My pick this week is 'Battle in Seattle' the movie is based on the true story of the 1999 WTO Riots in Seattle. The riots that were heard and mimicked around the world.

1999 was the first year the WTO held their Summit on American soil and I am really surprised it wasnt the last. What began as a peceful protest turned really really nasty when the police clashed with protesters leaving Seattle looking like it was in the middle of a civil war .

This is one of the most moving... movies I have ever seen. It really opened my eyes to what really went on with these riots. Watching it on the news you only get one side of the story in this film you get to see it from a few different points of view.

The outstanding editing of Real News footage and Film footage makes the impact of this movie immense! Follow that with an all star cast that includes Woody Harrelson, Charlize Theron, Ray Liotta and Joshua Jackson this movie is a sneak up on ya hit.

If you have ever watched the show 'Bridezillas' you have almost already seen this movie.

'The Uninvited' Starring Elizabeth Banks (Role Models, Zack and Miri Make a Porno)

This a Horror movie that has been adapted from a Korean Horror film 'The Two Sisters'

The tale of a Nurse (Elizabeth Banks) that moves into a wealthy home to take care of the sick Mum/Wife until an unforseen accident kills the Mum/Wife!

But the two daughters are not convinced it was just an accident and they believe the nurse who is now dating the father is behind it all.

Typical horror flick with a VERY surprise ending... Think Sixth Sense

From this week my favorite pick is 'The Reader' starring Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes. The movie is set in post Nazi Germany where Kate Winslet, whose carachter is almost pushing 40, becomes caught up in an affair with a teenage boy.

Just a heads up that for about the first 45 mins to an hour Kate Winslet is pretty much naked all the time. She is either taking her clothes off or putting them back on! (Not for the kids)

After that is outta the way the story takes a sharp turn and becomes even more intriguing... unfortunately I cannot tell you why, so as not to ruin the movie for you, but it will both shock and keep you wanting to know more.

With this movie my first thought was "...this is going to drag on..." but there aren't the looooong drawn out dialogue scenes that can really kill a movie like this. The scenes are usually very short and always changing. Just another way they keep you wanting to watch what happens next!

DVD Review!

Of all the DVDs my personal fav from this week is 'Yes Man' starring Jim Carrey.

If you are a fan of the work Jim Carrey does you are going to LOVE this movie. It is classic Jim Carrey although he does do something in this movie I have NEVER heard him do before...but you will have to pick it up to find out.

The story is about a recently divorced man (Jim Carrey) that is beginning to lose friends and possibly his job because he just says NO to everyone and everything. After being forced into going to a seminar he decides to improve his life by saying yes to EVERYTHING!! and I mean EVERYTHING!!!!

From this point on, true Jim Carrey hilarity ensues. Very similar to what he did in 'Liar Liar'

If I had to point out one thing bad with this movie... No Special Features on the DVD!! so we decided this morning that 'Yes Man' is a Renter not a buyer.

This movie takes a look into an issue that can make some people uncomfortable BUT the way it is handled in this movie is very well done.

Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman totally deserving in their Oscar Nominations for this movie.

I'm giving this one a Good!!

And Finally... 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'

Starring: Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly

Now, you may notice the cover to the right is from the original released back in 1951 when it won a Golden Globe. This is not a mistake if you want to rent this movie stay away from the Keanu Reeves Version the Original is MUCH better and its even in Black and white!! Doesn't say much for Keanu Reeves...

Last week we gave Todd Van Allen a CHUNK of Money to go to Malibu to report on Barbie's 50th Birthday for us.

So after a few days we finally were able to get in touch with Todd, but it doesn't appear he went to Malibu at all!! It looks to us like he pocketed our coin and played with HIS own dolls trying to pass it off like he was in Malibu...

As part of our Good, Bad, Whatever this past Monday (March 9) my good was that for the first time ever I painted a canvas!!

Now, the last time I even painted a picture takes me back to art class in high school. Believe me, it was far too abstract for even my teacher to appreciate. Soooo I threw in the towel or paintbrush if you will.

Then this past weekend, as a couple, my girlfriend and I painted pictures together... (pausing for awwwww's)... I know its pretty cute eh? hahahahahaha

Since talking about this painting on air Monday we at Bobs Breakfast have received MANY requests to see the painting. So for all of you waiting anxiously for my first masterpiece...

Super Bowl Shuffle

Tortilla Toss

Last Night was the Annual Tortilla Toss held at Lone Star in Kingston YUM!!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every tortilla that makes it into the bin = $10 to local Charities. So for us helping out the CHUM Radio Toy Drive

Needless to say Ali and I put on a pretty poor display which can be attributed to natural obstacles like a giant beam that obstructed our throwing... hahahahahah (Any Excuse)

Cut-a-thon!!

Well as most of you know a haircut for me consits simply of firing up the clippers going to town on my head then quickly covering up with a touque! So when the opportunity came up to get a haircut...a REAL haircut I was all over it!!

On Wednesday the Nov. 26th a Cut-a-thon was held at the Frontenac Mall, for a donation to the BOBfm Toy Drive you received a haircut by a student from either SLC or QECVI.

So I took this opportunity to pretty myself up for our work xmas party this Friday...

Michael Marello and Mariah, a Student from QECVI, came down to studio to give me my much needed haircut!!

Ali is pregnant...not!

I’ve been looking for some reasons as to why my taste buds out of whack. I noticed things started to taste yucky on Wednesday night, then everything I have eaten since has tasted a bit strange. I tried to look on Web MD for a diagnoses, but couldn’t find anything that related. Although I found these amusing in the symptom checker they offer “Teeth do not fit like they used to”, “Taste words when they are heard”. With those being humours, they weren’t helpful so I mentioned it on air Friday morning thinking that it might be a symptom of a cold or something, but was shocked to get calls and emails suggesting that it may be a symptom of pregnancy!!!!!!!!!!

If there is one thing my friends and family know about me, it’s that I have never had the desire to become a mother, ever. So this news was shocking, especially when you include the prediction from the Kingston Physic Marilyn Shannon that I would be pregnant within in the year. To make a long story short, Lock convinced me to do a test on air Monday morning – which I did and it turned out negative!!!

I was relieved and excited, but the question still remains why does food taste strange to me now?

This Tuesday Americans go to the polls and it seems that everyone has an opinion on who should be the next President (especially in this upcoming election). It would be nice if everyone who was educated (and opinionated) could cast their vote since this decision will effect the rest of the world in different ways.

Do the Glowing Mountain Dew

On Wednesday’s (October 22) Myth Stoppers we are going to attempt to recreate the glowing Mountain Dew. This looks fun, and what a wicked glow. Now it may glow, or it may blow up, or it may do nothing at all. I have the Mountain Dew, baking soda and peroxide (now I just have to remember to bring it all in) and we will test this out on Myth Stoppers Wednesday morning around 7:40. If you have never heard how to make Mountain Dew glow – watch the video below and tune in at 7:40 to see if it is real or some fancy footwork (and by footwork I mean artwork). I will post our video here once we complete the big experiment.

Sauer Play

Hey, everyone.

I was so riled up after yesterday's 4-1 win for the Habs over the Coyotes that I had to get something off my chest.

Over 20 years ago when Wayne Gretzky was starting to lead an Oilers dynasty, one of the reasons he got so many scoring opportunities is because opposing players would be reluctant to touch him. He got slammed into the boards too aggressively, Glen Sather would send out his fourth liners to make the perpetrator pay.

Fast-forward to last night where, down 2-0, Phoenix d-man Kurt Sauer smashes speedster Andrei Kostitsyn into the boards and gives him (likely) a concussion. An instant after it happened, the crowd knew that Sauer would have to pay the price courtesy of new Canadiens acquisition Georges Laraque. What ended up happening had me seething at The Great One, or as some may call him today, The Punk Coach.

Of course, the next time Sauer gets sent out onto the ice Charbonneau (who, I might add, completely bottled up Gretzky in the '93 cup final) sends out Laraque, and Gretzky should have seen, known and respected what was coming given how many times a player like Laraque would seek Vengeance on his behalf. So what happens when Laraque and Sauer get close? Every other player on ice for the Coyotes grabs Georges and holds him back. You don't have mass organization like that without some input from the coach. Then, with Laraque in the box for a roughing penalty as a result, Sauer gets sent back out - and decides he'll take his lumps against the much smaller Tom Kostopoulos and takes care of him in short order. Yeah, that shows a lot of courage, Kurt. Finally, Todd Fedoruk actually makes a leadership choice to face up to what's coming, and gets pummelled by Laraque. Fedoruk should never have been in that position.

I cannot believe the player most famous for being protected by a fourth line wouldn't allow Montreal to do the same to the offending player responsible, and pretty much threw his assistant captain under the Number 17 Express Bus. 99 needs to be more respectful of the rougher side of hockey, especially considering how it bailed his ass out so many times.

Shame on you, Wayne.

Manty Hose

I am not making this up – a company is trying to market pantyhose for men, saying that theyare practical in some ways “they prevent chafing, for example, when horse riding or cycling, but it's also a good alternative to bulky underwear if you need some warmth”.

Lock tried some on and seemed to like them he found them soft and silky - Chris on the other hand wasn't such a fan of Lock wearing them, I warned him of when they start to ride and slide, so he took them off.

How many times has this, or a variation of this, happened to you?

You’re in the middle of dinner and the phone rings but the phone sitting beside you is dead. Damn it. You run around the house trying to listen for the ringer of the other phone to find it, finally you get to it, answer it and are asked for “the lady of the house” and wonder if you would like to subscribe to something that you don’t need or want. You try to be polite and say no thank you, but are asked why not, it’s a great deal, basically they say you’ll save fuzzy kittens if you buy their product – which you won’t, you’d be getting a newspaper for a city that you don’t live in and would never read or a carpet cleaner when we only have hardwood floors. Now your food is getting cold and they won’t let you go. My usual way out is “thank you, but no thank you” and hung up before they can respond. Then I feel bad about doing it, but at least I didn’t get sucked in.

If you are like me, here is some great news…Canada now has a National Do Not Call List!! YAA! Starting today you can get your name and number on this list and tada, this annoying scenario doesn’t happen anymore. Well…keep in mind there are some exemptions, people who can continue to call you include registered charities, political parties, and companies that you already have business with. But this should keep the pesky calls down tremendously, I hope!

BEHEMOTH!!!!

Since the beginning of Canada's Wonderland's 2008 season I have been dreaming of riding the BEHEMOTH one of the biggest roller coasters in North America and definately the biggest in Canada. I am sure Ali and Chris have had enough of my constant rambling about how I NEEEEEEDDDDDDDD to ride it!!

Well, this past weekend I was finally given the opportunity...

This is what it looks like from the parking lot, it pretty much Dwarfs any other ride at Canada's Wonderland.

That initial climb is 230ft at the top then you proceed to plummet at 125km/h plus while the whole time feeling like you are going to fall right out of your seat... before I get into more ride details check the line up!!! ! span style="font-size:0;">

At this point we have been in line for about 25-30 mins... only another 20 mins to go until we are sitting in the car ready to conquer BEHEMOTH!!!

After almost one hour in line we took our spots in the third car from the front and off we went...straight up 230ft (My highest Bungy Jump...200ft) then an INTENSE drop at 125 km/h then another climb and drop then another climb... you get the idea.

With every drop you lift right out of the seat to the point where you feel you are going to come out of the roller coaster, your stomach is in your throat, then your ankles, then your throat, then your...again I'm sure you get the idea.

After a ride that lasts just over three minutes, this is what you look like...

There are really no words to describe the way it makes you feel while waiting in line, on the ride or the way you feel once its all over.

But I will leave you with two quotes, one from a lover of all things terrifying...

"This was the most amazing ride I have ever been on in my entire life!!!"

and the other terrified of heights but still willing to conquer behemoth...

"There was absolutely not one part of that ride that was fun!!"

You have to ride it to decide for yourself.

Kingston, Come for our Beautiful City, Stay for Some Suspension Work

Last year CAA released the Worst Roads in Ontario and Kingston made it on that list twice. Two roads in Kingston (Princess & Brock) are some of the worst in Ontario. In all of 1,076,965km, a total of area of 450km made it on the list twice.
We are the First Capital of Canada, we have the lovely UNESCO World Heritage Site - Fort Henry, we have beautiful waterfront on Lake Ontario, many hot (and smart) Queens, RMC and St. Lawrence students, great patio’s, one fantastic essential radio station…the list goes on, but to be listed twice as having the worst roads, not something I’d like to keep on that list of things that Kingston is known for. That being said, we do have some terrible roads. Yes Brock and Princess – although Brock is getting resurfaced in October (ya!), but there are many others.

Have you been down Taylor Kidd in the rain? Don’t go over 20 you may hydroplane. Pay attention if you’re on Norwest Road, you may disappear in a pot hole. Princess at Sir John A. feels like you’re on an old logging road. How is Bath Road, I haven’t bee on it in a while.

Got a suggestion of a particularly bad road?
Or if you are a bright, positive, optimistic person, forget the roads, what would you like Kingston be to known for?

Happy Long Weekend!

It’s been a while, and with school starting up again on Tuesday and summer holidays over we and we do promise to get back on track when it comes to blogging (but lets be honest, we’ll be as “on track” as we can be but our track is a little crooked and a bit warped). It’s been tough with holidays and wanting to sit on the patio all the time!

So yes, back to work and back to school on Tuesday, we have a big announcement to come on Tuesday morning. As we divulged this morning, it’s so big you don’t want to smoke around it, it’s so big but it’s not about cheese – or cutting it and it’s so big that President Bush is invading Iraq. We will announce that at 8:10 (or thereabouts) Tuesday morning.

To relive this morning, we did the draw for a BMX starter kit with Kingston BMX and a wonderful guy from Lansdowne won, Mike was so excited because as you can see his old bike is a bit, well old.

Lock and I thought it was a very cool bike, but Mike said it wasn’t working anymore (It’s quite rusted). So this new BMX bit came at a great time for him! Congratulations Mike, enjoy your new bike!!

Have a fantastic long weekend, keep in mind the cops will be out in full force this long weekend, on the roads, on the water and watching from the sky above. They are looking for aggressive drivers, so just relax and take you time and make sure you get to where you’re going.

103.7’s 20th Anniversary

Well I’m back from vacation and forgot that I was to blog yesterday, I’m still on vacay mode, but here I go…
This morning we were taking about the new search engine www.cuil.com and with my addiction to Google, Lock and Chris told me all morning I couldn’t use Google, only cuil. It was not easy. I love my google. I tried all morning to find a picture of a radio for the next part of my blog but couldn’t! Eventually I did on Wikipedia (thank goodness I could sometimes get to Wiki through cuil) and had to cut and past some, so it’s a hatchet shot, but you get the picture. Onto the rest of the blog…

The 20th anniversary of the launch of 103.7 FM happened Monday, to celebrate our General Manager and former announcer on 103.7 FM gave a brief history of our fantastic station, which had launched at 1:03, twenty years ago so fittingly we played music from the year the station launched (1988 if you don’t want to get the calculator out).
Then our GM sent out a list of former announcers over the 20 years, it was a long list (I happened to be on it) and I started reminiscing. I actually remember being at the cottage listening to the radio, remember the little ghetto blasters that were cool in the ‘80’s, they were about the length of your keyboard, maybe four inches tall and wide? It was tuned in to 103.7 FM, and ironically the song playing was “Riders on the Storm” by The Doors, which as become one of my favourite Doors songs, but the ironic part was the fact that it was a warm August night with a fantastic thunderstorm booming all around me while I sat in my room listening to the rain on the roof and waiting for the power to go out, as it usually did back then out at the cottage. I thought the song fit perfectly to the setting and was fascinated that the guy (or girl) back at the station was able to play a song so fitting to the setting. I think it may have been at that moment I thought that I wanted to do that. And here I am.

14 Carrot Gold

A mix of east coast folk rock with "California Rock" with long hair, long beards and dueling fiddle solos. While that sounds awesome, it'll never happen. Also this morning, we were talking about this cool helicopter blimp crane thingy. I just had to post pictures of it, because…well it’s cool!

Basically the way it works is like a blimp with helicopter and crane capabilities. Technically speaking “The helium-filled envelope would support the weight of the aircraft itself (fuel included). Four rotors sticking out from the sides of the envelope would provide the lift for the external payload”.

It’s called the Skyhook JHL-40 and the companies say, should be able to lift a 40-ton sling load and then transport it 200 miles without refuelling. They say it is perfect for getting into harsh, undeveloped regions like the Canadian Arctic. The patent belongs to an Alberta based company Skyhook (hence the name the Skyhook), and prototypes will be built at a Boeing facility in Pennsylvania – pending approval from the Federal Aviation Administration and Transport Canada.

I have been debating this since it was announced, do I go or do I stay? Scott Weiland back with Stone Temple Pilots. How do you pass that up! Um…well,

- it’s in a big huge field in the middle of no where in Toronto
- there will be thousands of people
- I’d have to be there for the day
- it’ll cost me an arm and a leg
- my husband won’t go
- I’m too old

But, in the end I’m going to Edgefest!!!! In the end, all those “negatives” did not weigh heavily enough against the one “positive”

The eight years that they were not together I had been kicking myself for not going to see them while they had been together. Now is my opportunity. It's one of the few concerts that I still want to see because I have seen hundreds of awesome concerts, some legendary ones (in my mind)…The Guess Who at the Kingston Memorial Centre (huge band rocked a small venue), John Mellencamp (after his four-pack-a-day habit, he’s lucky to still be alive), Tom Petty (cuz he’s Tom Petty), Lenny Kravitz (in is tight white pants), Pearl Jam at Maple Leaf Gardens (before it became an empty wasteland) and too many more to list. But there are very few concerts that I would go out of my way to see, Neil Young and Neil Diamond are two that come to mind (no that was not a spelling mistake, I meant Diamond you would know every word to almost every song), maybe NIN and Jack Johnson too.

So off I go. Have there been any concerts you’ve wanted to see so badly that you've kicking yourself for not seeing? Or a concert you are sooo happy you go to see? Or maybe one that you wanted to see and it dissapointed (don't jinx my STP dreams).

Even though he's not a Habs fan, I'm anxious to talk about Montreal's signing of Georges Laraque. He brings a strong element of toughness to the team, and is a good acquisition in my eyes. Dan may disagree, though, as he's more of a point man.

Rooting for Bob

It's at this time that I'd like to direct everyone's attention to a rather famous Bob in the world of Canadian sports. He's currently visiting Sweden on a meeting that is tremendously important to me and my fellow Canadiens fans.

I'm talking about Bob Gainey as he attempts to court Mats Sundin to sign a contract that would have put his name and number 13 on the back of the bleu, blanc et rouge. Of course, the ramifications of this would rock the entire hockey world. Here you would have the all-time Toronto Maple Leafs' leading score suiting up with their longest rivals (though I argue the true rivalry ended in the 70's when Montreal won multiple cups and the Leafs a big goose egg.) It would be the biggest defection in the history of the two teams, which is huge given how moments of Habs-Leafs history have been few and far between since 1967 (outside of Montreal sweeping them during one of their late 70's cup runs.)

The Habs celebrate their 100th anniversary next season and look like they want to make it special. I'm a big fan of their trade for Alex Tanguay and you've gotta think if they lose out on Mats that they'll be pushing for another free agent on Canada Day.

But as an optomistic fan who's poised to be on the winning side of a Sundin deal this is incredibly exciting. It's not often a team has an exclusive chance to court one of the 20 best players in the league, whether he's the captain of your chief "rival" or not. It's a situation that fits both the team and player well, and the instinct of almost any sportswriter you'll find says this is going to happen.

I couldn't be happier if it does.

Why so hectic!!!!!!?

Things have been sooo busy around here and at home, I have barely been able to sleep let along blog! I was wondering why things were so busy, it’s not Christmas! It’s not even summer yet (not till Saturday). But I guess with holidays starting, the work loads pile up for everyone just to get that one day off. Ahh who am I kidding, on that one day off that you get it’s up time to catch up by doing that dusting that has been put off, the gardening, the cleaning, maybe hit the gym. Oh I can’t wait for my big day off this Friday. I actually may forgo the cleaning, the gardening and the gym and simply sit on the deck, swim and nap (weather pending).

Lets recap the week...

Chris is off this week, he actually didn’t even tell us what he’s doing for his week off, I’m going to guess he’s playing a lot of Guitar Hero.

Lock was in a strange rugby accident that had him tackled and hurting his neck so bad he went to the hospital and had to take Friday off, although his ruby buddies say he’s a baby (I’m paraphrasing), Chris and I were concerned for him. Seems a little too close to a serious paralysing accident to joke about too much (although we did joke a bit), he is find and will be back to ruby this weekend. Good luck dude, please be careful!

I had Bark Busters back to our house to work with Baxter, he was doing sooo much better with not losing his mind when the door bell ran and jumping on people, but he has figured us out. When my husband & I practice he’s really good but he must sense that it’s just Mike or I at the door because when friends come over he goes bananas. So with Bark Busters there he jumped on them with excitement, his little tail and entire butt shaking he’s so happy to see them…which means we failed, but again within 5 minutes they gave us tips on how to fix it and they worked! Incredible! I can’t say enough good things about Alana & Marco from Bark Busters. They work the entire 1000 Islands and Eastern Ontario area, so if you need help check out their Bark Busters Website give them a call and see what they can do for you, you will be amazed!

The Good, Bad & Whatever from Monday went something like this:

for Ali: We went to the Cubs game!! The roof was open, stadium was fuller than usual, beer was cold, Cubs won! Also went to the cottage for Fathers Day, had an awesome meal that mum made, sat in the sun, went out in the boat for the first time this year!

for Lock: Went and Saw Nikki Payne at YUK YUKs in Ottawa...she is the crazy east cost comedian with a Cleft Palate and lisp she was on last comic standing last year and made it pretty far and is also part of Much Music’s Video on Trial... Hilaaaaarious

for Ali: Started a freaking diet (last year lost 20lbs but gained it all back, so I’m trying again)

for Lock: Wasn't able to play Rugby Saturday because of my stupid neck...WEAK!!!!!!

Whatever
for Ali: The US Open (whatever cuz there wasn’t a winner yet, they had the play off on Monday and I found it sort of exciting!)

for Lock: Pretty sure the Westin Hotel in Ottawa tripled the price of their hotel rooms when they saw me coming in... based on my 'relaxed attire' Last time I stayed there... $150 for one night... this time... $376????? What????

Myth Stoppers today we tackled the myth “Your best golf shots always occur when playing alone”. Lock teed off alone, it sliced right with not a lot of distance, the second time he got someone from the club house to watch and he said it was one of his best shots ever! That myth was stopped…out of the fairway (does that analogy work there?).

It is pretty amazing though with me walking the halls singing/ humming/ whistling these songs it doesn't take long for the rest of the peeps in the building to start whistling/ humming/ singing the same songs.

there is a scientific explanation behind all this and its called an ear worm but there is no guarenteed way to get rid of it...

One American Scientist, Professor James Kellaris of the University of Cincinnati said one way that seems to work is listening to the song in its entirety should in turn force it out of your head. Be careful not to try and replace it because you will generally just end up with another ear worm.

Well it has been a while since I have been here on the BLOG and I must apologize first and foremost.

Soooooo much has happened in the last couple weeks that it is really tough to keep track of everything and to keep you up on everything so lets just start with Sunday...

Sunday began for me at South Grenville District High School in Prescott which for the time being is the home field of the Brockville Privateers Rugby Team. We played the Cornwall Crusaders...again and we lost...again but this time it was close!!! which is pretty exciting I feel like this weekends game against Barrhaven will be our big moment to collect our first win!!

It seems as the big interest around me playing Rugby, at least amongst the other members of BOBs Breakfast, are the injuries so here is a brief list of where i was stood on during the game...

Right after the game it was right home to quickly nurse my wounds before heading off to Toronto With Helen Blackburn + Friends to Check out R.E.M at the Molson Amphitheatre and what an amazing group of people to travel with and I thank them all soooo much for an incredible time.

Modest Mouse opened the show and were followed by a full on two hour set by R.E.M. Amazing to see such an incredible band that have an immense amount of experience. we returned from Toronto around 3 am so I spent my ENTIRE day yesterday sleeping... don't judge hahahah.

And here we are today after a Late Night Tuesday Morning getting set for Myth Stoppers Wednesday... But you will have to wait to find out what we will be stopping or trying to stop tomorrow...

Camp Day (Part Two)

Had a lot of fun at Tim Horton's Camp Day this afternoon. I was placed in front of the drive thru window, and managed to hand people a lot of coffee without spilling a drop. OK, one drop. But it was just that: a drop. I was also peddling Hershey's Kisses, being promoted by the "operator" as a "kiss from Chris from 103.7 BOB FM." Man, when people turned the corner and caught a look of my grill - unaware of the true nature of said kisses - well... let's just say I've never seen people go around a donut/coffee/sandwich shop that fast. Nice of them to still toss the money they owed at the window, though I was hit in the eye with a dime.

Big thanks to the ladies at Timmies who helped me out, though they did talk about the Lock - who was there before me - quite a lot and about how loud he was. As I quipped... Lock's all action. I'm all reaction. I'm not sure what that means but trust me: it made sense.

Tim Horton's Camp Day

Tomorrow the Lock gets to live out his dream - to be around Tim Horton's products for an entire hour. Next on the list for him - bathing in bacon grease. Disgusting to all except him.

Anyhow, all three of us will be at area Timmies burning ourselves with coffee and trying not to drop your donut as we hand them through the drive through window. And, like Michael Jordan once said on the wicked awesome "Pro Stars" cartoon... it's all about helping kids. All the hot beverage money will help send kids who really should go to camp... to camp!

I am absolutely knocked aback by how busy it has to be for Timmies' staffers. Two years ago at my last Camp Day I did more work in an hour than most male models. Wait, they don't do any work; they just stand around, often surrounded by women. Hell, that's less work than what I'm doing right now: Sitting at a computer listening to Sgt. Pepper.

Who needs Hockey when you have fiddlesticks!

It’s striking a nerve across the city, should we or shouldn’t we be allowed to play road hockey in Kingston? The city has constructed a Code of Conduct and is giving Kinstonians the opportunity to have their say on some of the details at http://www.cityofkingston.ca/ Here are the basics to what is being proposed...

Location to play: only on locally classed streets – according to the Code of Conduct
Hours of play: 9am – 8pm
Length of play: 1 hour per 4 hour period
Game space: 1 game per space (the area occupied by the game plus 2 houses on either side of the game)
Number of players: no more than 8
Adult supervision: for children under 12
Safety equipment: CSA approved helmet
Permit Required: yes

This a little ridiculous. Am I alone in this? Rules to let kids play? What’s next, no running on sidewalks in certain subdivision, hide and seek must be played in an open field with no obstructions. Now I’m being ridiculous, but that’s what it feels like. Kids have been playing road hockey in Canada for years and years and years. Think if Sydney Crosby or Wayne Gretzky didn’t play street hockey with their friends, it may not be the reason they became the superstars that they are today, but it’s something that Canadian Kids do and love. I played it growing up, and by “played” I mean my brother use to practice slap shots on me – and it made me stronger damnit.

As long as the kids have a decent grasp of “common sense” and know not to aim at picture windows or dogs and know well enough to move out of the way of a moving car (hence the Canadian term “CAR!!”), there shouldn’t be an issue…in my humble opinion. Again, am I alone in this thinking? The proceeding is the opinion of Ali MacLean and not necessarily that of CHUM Radio.

Good and Hot

This morning we tested what remedy works best when your mouth is on fire and burning from hot spicy foods. I personally enjoyed it I go through a Costco size bottle of hot sauce in about a month, Lock on the other hand didn’t like it so much, he started sweating and felt faint but is a bit better now. The results came out as follows:

On a scale of 1-5 how well they worked to fend off the burning:
1 Water
1 Hot Sauce (fighting fire with fire)
2 Vinegar
2 Toothpaste
3 Bread
3 Bread & Butter
4 Milk
4 Chocolate

The tie breaker between milk and chocolate landed chocolate a little bit ahead. Any other suggestions that you would like to know if they work? Or do you have a special secret weapon that you'd share with us that really works for you.

In conclusion, try some sort of dairy product to relieve the burn of hot stuff and add hot sauce to anything Lock is eating for a good laugh.

Fortune and glory, kid. Fortune and glory

By now, most people have probably seen the new Indiana Jones, but we wait till after the opening weekend, so that we are not surrounded by kids. We made the mistake a few years back and went to the opening weekend of Shrek the Third and only saw about a third of the movie. The child behind me kept kicking the seat and was having a full on conversation with his buddy about cats and all that is green, trust me it didn’t add to the movie going experience or to my desire to have children.
As for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I thought it was OK. My husband was floored when he suggested we watch the first three movies and I told him that I hadn’t seen them since the 80’s. Over the course of the past week we brushed up on all things Dr. Jones, and by “we”, I mean “I”, as Mike was able to act out the movie as it played out on the TV, that’s good times.
The story line in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a little “out there” (if you’ve seen the movie you’ll get my vague reference), Don’t get me wrong, the action was great.
The thing that caught my attention the most in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was that Harrison Ford is 66 years old! Damn. He looks great! I was not a fan of his “Get off my plane” movie, and I guess he was decent in other movies he’s done, but watching all the Indiana Jones movies back to back gave me a new respect for the old guy.
Do you remember a year or two ago Calista Flockhart was shooting a show and a security guard had noticed a homeless guy in the backseat of her car, so he called for back up and they kicked him out…only to find it was Harrison Ford. Dude is looking old, scratch that, dude was looking old. Being Dr. Jones suits him…he should continue those till he can’t stand any more, then do them with him in a nursing home searching for the lost hearing aid battery ™ by Ali MacLean.

A Good, Bad or Whatever Weekend?

Every Monday morning Lock, Chris & I give the Good, Bad and Whatever from the weekend, be it stuff from our personal lives, or from the world around us. Here were our GB Whatev’s from this past weekend:

Chris:
Good: All this Rock Band playing has paid off… went to a party Friday, where I discovered I can sorta play real drums. It was awesome.
Bad: Knowing I could never get a drumset in my apartment without having the neighbours want to kill me.
Whatever: There’s a great picture of me playing cowbell now.

Lock:
Good: Wiped out half the bug population driving back and forth to Ottawa... they are now hanging out on the windshield and all over the front of my truck
Bad: Idiot!!! I locked my keys in my truck (but trust me it worked out GREAT!) The story ended there – no more info allowed
Whatever: Stanley cup playoffs...remember those yeah they are still on...

Ali:
Good: Ladies for Life Golf Tournament in Athens on Saturday, they had 138 golfers and a lot of fun….last year they donated over nine thousand dollars to Breast Cancer Research. I don’t golf, so I got to ride around with the Beer Cart and meet the golfers and give them beer, they loved me!
Bad: Going to bed when the sun is still up sucks, we go to bed around 8 and little kids are up later than us playing hockey, but we’re trying to sleep. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy that the sun stays up so late.
Whatev: Weather – at least there was sun, but where is the warmer weather?! My husband has a bad feeling that this summer, like last summer won’t be a hot summer. So we may take down our pool (just an above ground)

Ali Told Me to Write This...

For years...and I know I'm not alone...I've heard "...Well you cant teach an old dog new tricks." We grow to accept these statements and this is the purpose of Mythstoppers, stopping the oldest most unexpected of Myths...Is it impossible to teach an old dog new tricks?

We learned this morning...No, it is totally possible.

Ali definately not alone in trying everything under the sun to get her pooch Baxter to stop jumping up on people especially when the doorbell rings. In come the Bark Busters (I am sooo excited I just learned how to insert that link) with their unique method of training. I believe the wording was, treating them like they are in the wild... letting them know who is boss in the house.

After about 5 mins Baxter learned not to be jumping and this is done by simply saying " BAH!" whenever he jumps up, not BAAA like a sheep though, it is supposed to Mimic what the leader of the pack would do if one of the members was stepping out of line "BAH!"

To our amazement something so simple worked!! and the similar theory can be applied to many different problems pet owners face with their pooches. There is definately a little more to it but the Bark Busters works.

The Conclusion for Myth Stoppers today...

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks its just a matter of finding the right teacher...

The Lock's First Time

On May 1st we were talking about our firsts...first love, first concert, first cigarette etc... well tack this one on to the list for me...First Blog.

When the idea for this blog came about I was totally excited about the new edition to Bobs Breakfast. But as my time to prepare one approached I found myself struggling to figure out what I was gonna put here. Not for lack of material but because there is so much I wanna get out there, its the editing down part I struggle with.

Under the circumstances where better place to begin than with the recent May 1 - 9 looooong weekend. Mine began In Sydneham at a buddies cottage where people come in from all over Eastern Ontario for the Annual Cottage Opening Party. There is nothing like turning off the cellphone and not even looking at a clock...what time is it? Day time or Night Time thats all you need to know at the cottage.

Arrived Friday Night Time... and within the first half hour Tent was up and the fire was licking 4 ft in the air nothing too crazy to start, the weekend is still very young.

Didn't sleep until Daytime Saturday and as the Sun rose on Saturday Morning the lake was like a sheet of glass just begging for a line to be thrown in sending a rippling effect across the lake. By this point only 4 people remained awake and after an hour of debating WHO was going to get the rods a decision was reached. When they finally got there one of the hooks was caught in the pocket of a friends pants and while trying to get it out...the hook soooo rusted broke in half, we are now down to one rod. Thats OK we can share the one. The first cast goes out and it wasnt the greatest especially finding itself... SNAGGED ON A ROCK!!! We were forced to break the line and that was it bed time.

Slept just enough to keep going for at least another Day/Night plus it was tough to keep warm despite the several layers i had to sleep in. More people began arriving Saturday and with that the tent city began to grow considerably. The Day was filled with ridiculous shenanigans but the weather was great, far better than expected or that had been reported. Until what felt like midafternoon then out of nowhere the sky opened up and down came the rain and it quickly turned into an episode of survivor everyone began constructing a tarp city to accompany our tent city. The tarps even withstood a pretty impressive thunderstorm that hit Saturday but no matter what, you look around all the people and everyone still smiling!!!

Saturday Night time was as to be expected, most of us have to been to wild cottage parties before so I will leave the details to your imagination...

Sunday Daytime was interesting because after two days in the bush 4 carloads headed into Kingston for Breakfast at a fairly reputable and busy breakfast establishment. We walked in and were quickly escorted to the backroom of the restaurant...can you blame them really... Breakfast was amazing and just what the doctor ordered.

Once we got back to the Cottage time to pack up and make the trip home which is both a downer because it will be another year before many of us cross paths again but welcomed because i'm dying for a shower and a bed.

I have now been in Ottawa for a couple days and as you may have noticed I was not around today, figured I need that extra day off just to make sure I am fighting form for tomorrow morning.

But I assume this morning there was a Good, Bad, Whatever... and there was ALOT to Choose from this weekend but here we go...

GOOD: Going into the bush for the Annual Cottage Opening Party

BAD: (Tough One) Trying to cook hotdogs on a stick over the fire and dropping 5 in a row!! Devastating

Whatever: The Cold, didn't really notice it too much just soooo happy to be at the cottage. OR Canada Losing to Russia at the IIHF.

Well I will be taking off from Ottawa momentarily looking foward to Wednesday... We have a HUGE show including Mythstoppers and a HUGE CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT.

Episode 23: Chris Gets Hit By A Car

This morning on Mythstoppers we debunked the long-standing phrase that "the grass is always greener on the other side." I had to cross Highway 29 traffic to get the job done, and was lucky enough not to get hit by a car during its peak hours.

Afterwards, I got an e-mail from my Mom (you may remember her from such Bob's Breakfast shows as... last Friday's!) who was pleased I didn't get hit. But that e-mail reminded me that, if I had been pasted by the grill of a sedan this morning, it wouldn't have been the first time.

I had just turned seven years old in the summer of 1989 when it happened. I was walking across the rarely busy street in front of my very family's very own home, and made the stupid mistake of not looking both ways before hand. Before I could say "roadkill" I was sent flying four feet in the air, slid across Water Street in Oxford Mills and was knocked unconscious by the curb.

The next few moments were a blur. There are a few things I remember, like being assured that I wasn't dreaming - what was happening was real. I also recall the ambulance trip, but not being loaded onto it.

In the end, I was very lucky. I ended up with a small bump on the head, a long scrape down the middle of my back (which looked absolutely nasty), and a sore knee that bugged me now-and-then for the next few years. The biggest casualty was what at the time was my favourite shirt - it was cut off when I got to the hospital.

Of course, if anyone listens to Bob's Breakfast, they probably wonder if I was hit in the head as a young boy. Hey, you know something...

Didn't get a chance to touch on this today, but FOX moving House to Monday nights to accommodate American Idol is a little irritating.

I always have a difficult time getting to sleep Sunday nights as the weekend throws my inner clock a little out of whack. But usually by Tuesday morning I'm fine.

Not so now. Because House is on until ten (I get up really early, folks) on Monday's I've been getting a combined 13 hours of sleep over the course of two nights. What that does is make Tuesday feel like a Monday. It doesn't affect me much when I'm on the air, but by 9:30 AM when I'm busy working in the newsroom and the next day's show I start to hit the wall.

Now, I know the smart thing to do is tape House and watch it the next day but, well... I guess I wouldn't be able to listen to myself the next morning, then. SPOILERS OH NO!!

Rock Band and Desperate Housewives

In case you missed the "Good, Bad and Whatever" this morning, the "Whatever" story was about how I crafted The Lock as a drummer in Rock Band on my X-Box 360. The results were freakish, as in "freakishly accurate." There are about six faces to choose from when creating your avatar, and I've used them to put together pretty good models of The Beatles, The Who, Eric Clapton, Alice Cooper, Freddie Mercury and Lindsey Buckingham. They're not perfect, but they're very close. Not so with The Lock - his face is practically in the game, and we managed to craft an exact replica. Well, except he has no toque. Hopefully I can post a picture here for you to see for yourself, along with the one I made months ago for ME, which was the best I could do and isn't even remotely close. Though the custom Patrick Roy guitar I crafted looks awesome.

Lock and I are planning to wear suits tomorrow to avoid fashion scorns from the United Way's Desperate Housewives as they visit the Brockville studio. That event is coming up one week from Thursday. Ali's safe in Kingston, so she can dress in her usual attire tomorrow - track pants, a Poison sweatshirt and a mullet wig.

Mother's Day

Hey! It's Chris here, taking the blog reigns for the next week to keep you up to speed on what's been going on and what will be going on during BOB's Breakfast. If only I had something resembling a short-term memory. I'll do my best!

All of our Moms were on the show today (including Lock's, whose back is still doing fine as it didn't break when Lock stepped on a crack. "The Mythstoppers! DUNDUNK!" Every Wednesday!) and were fantastic. I think the highlight had to be Ali getting completely flustered by her Mom's three "truths." Lock and I picked out the false one for our Moms easily. Ali discombobulated = pure comedy.

Next week we're qualifying people for BOB's May 2-4 Road Trip. Be listening from six to six Monday-to-Friday next week, and to 103.7 BOB FM all weekend for the little hype piece BOB's Breakfast put together. Have a good one!

Chicken or the egg?

This morning Bob's Breakfast actually went on a mission to find out once and for all which came first, the chicken or the egg. The answer…well keep reading to find out. I went to Smitty’s in Kingston because they serve Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner all day long, I explained to them what I was doing and ordered a chicken breast and an egg (done the most common way according to Smitty’s wich was over easy). I asked them to start them both at the exact same time and bring whichever was done first as soon as it is done. We placed our bets, Chris and I said the egg, Lock said the chicken. The outcome of this study…they both were finished at the same time. What are the chances!!??!! I guess this is why the question still exists!

A coffee maker and a Party

Today we tested the theory that “Canada is the loft above the party”, this was said by Craig Ferguson of the Late Late Show. So we called a bunch of different Americans to see if they were partying. The weren’t. Some in fact were the opposite to partying, they were working! Poor things. So that theory has been blown to bits.
Another thing we did this morning on Late Night Tuesday Morning was throw a coffee maker off the roof. Why you ask…well Letterman has done it on Late Night television, so we tried it. It was fun nothing more than that. Lock will post the video here, you’ll be able to see how fun it was!
Tomorrow with Myth Stoppers I'm going test another theory…not really a theory, more a confusing statement that has never been proven, Aristotle concluded it was inconclusive…we will try to "conclude" tomorrow morning!!

Ok, I’m a little dyslexic but when I wrote it like that it didn’t scare me as much (I couldn't even put a picture of a spider, hence spidy man). I have a ridiculous fear of spiders. I know it is ridiculous because I am pretty sure they can’t kill me, but they just freak me out to no end. As soon as I see one I get the feeling that they are crawling all over…now I feel nauseous. I must stop giving you the gory details of them. This morning I had a huge problem. There was one hibernating on the phone in the studio. So all morning I had to look at this freaky white spider and for all I know, he could have been staring back at me planning my demise, you don’t know. It was kind of comforting to know that he was there and hadn’t move to my hair. But it was also killing me to have to stare at him all morning to make sure he didn’t flee.
How do I get over this wicked fear for creepy crawly insects? As proved this morning, I tried to confront my fear by sitting 3 feet from one all morning, but that didn’t help and I’m not getting any closer till I’m over this fear. So what else ya got? I am tempted to do hypnotherapy. Would that help?
Anything help would be appreciated, please!

Welcome to Bob's Breakfast's Blog.

This is where you'll get to delve deep inside the minds of Bob's Breakfast...don't worry, it won't take long, we are pretty simple. In the immortal words of the Rolling Stones (I had to make one change) "Please allow me to introduce ourselves, we are a team of wealth and taste". Well, taste at least, we are Ali, Chris and The Lock.
Ali (that's me) works out of our studio in Kingston while Chris and The Lock work out the studio in Brockville. Yep we don't have to see each other, which is good (I don't have to put my contacts in till others in the office come in around 9am), but it's hard to carry on conversations all morning and not see who you're talking too!
We basically all have the same sense of humour, we all like to see Lock get hurt. Kidding. But we are very sarcastic.

Basically what you'll find here is information on our show (past and future), we will take turns blogging about our random thoughts. Some more random than others.

Once we become technically savvy, we will post pictures and videos from our morning show. For now, thanks for checking us out and in the infamous words of The Terminator, " Nice night for a walk".
